Who We Are:
The NWSPCA was officially established in 2002, although it has been less formally working in Ballina and its surrounding areas for over 10 years. We a non-profit charity, manned entirely by volunteers and are constantly working to promote animal welfare in the North West. We have rescued, vaccinated and re-homed thousands of dogs and cats and our neutering programme has prevented thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens being born.
We not only rescue domestic animal, but also offer assistance to horses, goats, hedgehogs, birds, donkeys and have also helped a pig! Any creature know to be in distress is never overlooked by us.

Financially the NWSPCA depends totally on fundraising, sponsorship and our charity shop.
This year alone, we have rescued a staggering 900 dogs and some 771 cats.

As you may imagine, the running cost for such endeavors is rather steep. It costs 100K a year to keep things going. We constantly find ourselves under serious financial pressure; with our biggest expense being veterinary fees.

A dog is for life not just for Christmas.
We urge you to remember that a little puppy will grow into a full sized dog that needs walking, feeding, grooming and affection every day – for the next 14 years at least. Hopefully you can see why giving someone a 14 year commitment is not the greatest Christmas present ever.
The Christmas season is an artificially time when most people are off work and school and there are many more people at home with the time to care for a pup. However, come January, and the return to the ‘nine to five’, looking after the pup suddenly becomes yet another chore. Our dearest wish, this Christmas, is that no puppy is given as a present.
